Neighbourhood web enables anyone to create
a web site with absolutely no previous experience. It was created to
help local authorities develop their local
e-government programme.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has mandated that
local organisations, local businesses,
councillors and other elected members all need
to be encouraged and supported in the development and maintenance
of their own web sites by December
2005. Neighbourhood web does just that. View
Priority Outcomes document
Neighbourhood web is accessed via the internet. Every local government
organisation that signs up for Neighbourhood web will have a unique
web address such as www.southwilts.com.
The visual presentation of the site will be adapted so that it follows
your local style and brand. See examples
Once in place, organisations and small businesses in
your community will be able to access the site and start creating
their own
web sites on-line, for free. Within days, your Neighbourhood
web site
would start
evolving into a buoyant and vibrant e-community.
In addition to the standard product, Neighbourhood web comes with
several optional add-ons:
- Event Diary –
to promote and publicise community events in an on-line diary
- Jobs Vacancies Directory
– providing a fully functional employment placement and
search service for the local community
- For Sale
– allows users to sell surplus items locally
